What Would I Get Out of Writing a Memoir?

If I wrote a memoir, I would have to do some hard searching through my memory banks, and, after digging up memories I haven't considered in a long time, organize them on paper so they form a coherent story for someone else to understand. If others read it, it would further solidify the memories for me, as they would now extend beyond my own head, and become part of the group consciousness.
