The trick, the secret, the key, the name of the game of life, is keeping your body running well and good, like a clean machine. God has placed us here to do just that.

Different parts of your body during different time periods replace themselves. Say, your eyes every few weeks, your skin every few months, and your bones every few years. I'm just guessing. But the point is, your whole body replaces itself every few years. If you could eat well for those few years, it would be like you were getting a whole new, quality body.

I used to think that people in ancient history were inhuman; I thought they moved around like cartoons. I couldn't imagine their movements or their lives. Since we don't have any photographs, it is difficult to imagine what they looked like. Since we don't have any movies or films, it is difficult to imagine how they moved.
What I didn't realize was that they were actually real human beings, with most of the same human emotions: they had to eat, breathe, bathe, sleep, and breed, they had to be clothed and they had to be housed, they felt the same basic human drives to love and feel loved, to create, and be remembered. Knowledge of how they actually acted can come from the books written in that time period, paintings on the walls of churches, the other buildings that were built, and other artifacts that are extant. There aren't that many songs available to us that were written in that time period.
I would be willing to wager that the books are the most revealing about what was actually going on around then, since they provide the most fleshed-out portrait.
If you read Plato, or something like that, you see that he thought the same kinds of thoughts that we think today, with just as much subtlety and detail. They had the same depth and richness of vocabulary, the same highs and lows.
Just imagine your family living in ancient Greece, or something like that. It's not not the same.
They had money, they had jobs, they had the police, they had government.
They were the same as ours today—without the modern technology.
They had lovers and children, age and aging, and problems just as deep. They had the culinary arts and music, mental illness, and philosophical discussions: similar things. The world was pretty much as it is today, I guess except that, like I said, technology wasn't nearly what it is today, the worldly population was much smaller (it was around 300 million [I looked that up on Google]), and pollution was not nearly the problem it is, today.
It might help to watch a movie set in ancient Rome or something to help get a sense of the image that the world had back then, but it is important to remember: they were real people, our grandparents, actually, as a matter of fact. Vaguely the same fears, doubts, hopes, dreams.

I have also long had a hard time visualizing musicians in the studio as they produce their art. Having been working on some Youtube videos, I can kind of see that better, now. They too move around, look at things, have their ups and downs. But I think the word that best sums it up for me is: 'minuteness of movements.' The fine-muscle control of your eyes. Fingers and bowels. Getting up to go to the kitchen, looking at your partner over there—across the room, dropping your pick or the coins out of your pocket—having to pick them up, getting hungry or tired, wondering what you're gonna do tomorrow, etc. All these kinds of things happen in the studio.

I'm just clearing it up maybe for someone who, like me, didn't hear as much about the ancient world or the music studio as a younger person.
